Stabbing incident in South Africa

WARNING – This video is extremely graphic so please take a moment to think about the surroundings in which you will be watching it, so that you do not offend anyone because there are graphic scenes of blood.

What is the purpose of this video and why have I uploaded it as the only content on my website?

The purpose is because I have received numerous requests from people who want to see the video after I have told them about my near death experience.

Now onto the story itself…

This event occurred on the 22nd of April 2006 at around 20:20, I was living in Durban at the time and was walking home after watching a game of Super 12 Rugby in which the Natal Sharks were playing the Auckland Blues.

In route home I made use of my mobile to call my spouse and let her know that I was going home and attempted to make peace following a fight we’d had earlier in the evening.

While walking across Athlone bridge over the Umgeni River, three dark complexion men caught me unexpectedly by sneaking up behind me and grabbed my phone from my hands while I was speaking to my spouse.

I quickly turned around to determine what had happened and they reacted by stabbing me in the neck with an old fishing knife and left me for dead. The stabbing had left me half paralyzed as it had severed the major nerves at the base of my brain. The blade had entered into my spinal column, but did not sever the spinal cord (2mm near miss). The blade had also completely severed one of my main artery’s, which is a result of why the video displays the massive amounts of blood loss (10 units of blood loss, which resulted in a stroke on the operating table and the loss of use to part of my brain that controls our ability to balance).

A lengthy story of survival cut short, what you’re seeing within this video is exactly what Police recorded once they found me about 15 minutes following the incident.

If you would like to know more, feel free to contact me through the Contact page and I can provide you with a more detailed run down of the incident and the lengthy rehabilitation that I completed to be able to walk and run again.

God Bless,
Sean
